Madeira
Made on the Portuguese island of Madeira, this fortified wine goes by the same name. These have a range of sweetness levels, which is largely due to the sweetness of the ‘noble’ grape variety used in the wine - Malvasia being the sweetest of all. They are mostly made with white grapes, although Tinta Negra is sometimes used for lower quality Madeiras in a blend. Some very premium level Madeira’s have been aged for years and from specific vintages of particularly good years.
