Piedmonte
Located in the north-western corner of Italy – the wines of Piedmont are generally made with Nebbiolo; and of these wines the most famous are known as Barolo and Barbaresco. These big reds are best with age on them when the tannins have integrated into the wine. Other successful grape varieties from this region include Dolcetto and Barbera. This region also produces Asti Spumante, made with the Moscato grape. It’s sweet and low in alcohol and works beautifully with desserts.
