Loire
This mostly white wine region stretches along the Loire river from central to western France. The wine styles and grape varieties change as you go along the river. The upper Loire is known for producing world class Sauvignon Blanc based wine such as Sancerre, but the reds are notable too and made from Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. At the end of the river lies the Atlantic – this is where the famous muscadet wine is made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape variety.
