Rhone
Red wine predominates in the Rhone valley and it is found in southern France. Divided into two sub-regions with different viticultural backgrounds. Northern Rhone produces many Syrah based red wines with whites produced with Viognier, Marsanne and Rousanne. Southern Rhone’s blends make up the famous wine known as Chateauneuf du-Pape. Grape varieties include Syrah, Carignan, Mourvedre and Cinsault. Wine labelled Cotes du Rhone covers both northern and southern sub regions but more commonly will be from the south and these wines tend to be dominated by Grenache.
