Sicily
This fascinating region is the largest island in the Mediterranean and is of course geographically dominated by Mount Etna. The signature red grape variety is Nero D’avola – and makes up the bulk of red wine plantings here. Of the white wine varieties, it is Cateratto that leads the plantings and which makes for a light and easy drinking wine. Giusto Occhipinti has become a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture on the Island and makes incredible wine using the ancient techniques involving clay amphora.
